Top Democratic candidates’ energy plans ranked by American Petroleum Institute

The recent ranking of the Democratic candidates’ energy plans by the American Petroleum Institute (API) has sparked mixed reactions.

To open up the discussion, supporters of Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg would be pleased that their candidates’ plans have been evaluated and ranked highly. Biden’s focus on balancing economic and environmental concerns and Buttigieg’s emphasis on innovation are commendable and showcase their commitment to finding sustainable solutions.

Nonetheless, supporters of Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders may feel aggrieved that their plans have been labelled as “unrealistic” and “harmful to the economy.” It is possible that the criteria used by the API, such as “competition” and “global leadership,” may be biased towards promoting fossil fuels and downplaying the need for renewable energy.

It is important to note that the API has a track record of opposing environmental regulations and promoting fossil fuels, which could call into question the objectivity of their ranking. Additionally, it is puzzling why the API only evaluated Democratic candidates, as it would be useful to have a comprehensive ranking that includes all presidential hopefuls.

Regardless of the validity of the ranking, it is clear that energy policy remains a contentious issue for the upcoming election. As voters, we need to evaluate each candidate’s plan carefully and critically, and not rely solely on third-party rankings that may have underlying biases.
