Diplomatic gestures should not serve as a way to ignore or downplay the violations of individual liberties.

Bottom line, it is important for Republicans to strike a balance between diplomatic courtesy and moral values when engaging with foreign leaders. The United States cannot afford to ignore the human rights violations and aggression of dictatorial regimes, while at the same time, should not abandon the diplomatic protocol that is necessary in building peaceful relationships.
