Is Governor Kevin Stitt’s Endorsement of Ron DeSantis Justified

It is no secret that political endorsements are often given out based on party affiliation rather than actual competence or performance. This seems to be the case with Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt’s endorsement of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. While Stitt praised DeSantis’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his conservative policies, his endorsement lacks verifiable evidence.

At first, it is true that both governors are Republicans and have similar political beliefs. However, there have been widespread criticisms of DeSantis’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite being praised for vaccine distribution efforts, Florida has one of the highest COVID-19 cases and death rates in the United States. DeSantis has also been criticized for not enacting more stringent measures to control the pandemic spread.

Nonetheless, it is possible that Governor Stitt believes in the traditional Republican principles that DeSantis advocates for. However, by praising his pandemic leadership, Stitt seems to be turning a blind eye to the very real negative consequences of DeSantis’s actions. It is difficult to justify supporting a leader who has not taken the necessary actions to protect his constituents from a deadly virus.

In the end, Governor Stitt’s endorsement of Ron DeSantis may fall short of actual evidence-based support. While it is clear that both governors share similar political beliefs, it is also clear that DeSantis’s handling of the pandemic has been widely criticized. It is important for political leaders to prioritize the well-being of their constituents over party loyalty.
