Incels and Hypocrisy Bryan Kohberger Attends Margaret Atwood Lecture

It’s no secret that the incel community has been a source of controversy and concern in recent years. So when news broke that a man accused of being an incel had attended a lecture by Margaret Atwood, author of the critically acclaimed novel, The Handmaid’s Tale, social media was abuzz with accusations of hypocrisy.

At first, some argue that Kohberger’s attendance at an event that is critical of the misogyny and violence associated with incel culture is hypocritical. They say that if he truly believes in the ideology of the incel movement, he should not be supporting an author whose work contradicts those beliefs.

Notwithstanding, others argue that attending a lecture does not necessarily mean agreeing with the speaker’s ideology. They suggest that Kohberger may have been interested in hearing Atwood speak about other issues, unrelated to the incel community. Furthermore, some contend that attending events like this can be an opportunity for individuals to broaden their perspectives and experience new ideas.

Regardless of whether Kohberger’s attendance at the lecture was intentional or not, it does raise important questions about the role of the incel movement in our society. Many people find the community’s beliefs and actions to be deeply concerning, with some advocating for stricter measures to curtail their activities. Others believe that the incel community should be given a platform to express their views in a peaceful and respectful manner.

Ultimately, the intersection of incel ideology and popular culture is complex and often controversial. While Kohberger’s attendance at the Atwood lecture may be seen as problematic by some, it is important to remember that every individual has the right to attend events and explore different viewpoints. However, it is equally important to recognize the dangers of movements that promote misogyny and violence. Only through open discussion and informed debate can we hope to address these issues and move towards a more equitable and just society for all.
