House Republicans seek to clear Trump’s name, while Democrats push for accountability

House Republicans are making a bold move to expunge the impeachment charges against former President Donald Trump. The crux of their argument is that both the 2019 and 2021 impeachments were nothing but a sham, and that the Democrats were justifying their political vendetta against Trump.

Alternatively, Democrats argue that the impeachments were necessary steps to hold Trump responsible for his alleged wrongdoings. They assert that Trump abused his power by withholding military aid for Ukraine in exchange for investigating Joe Biden, and that he was also behind the Capitol riot.

While the Republicans claim that the impeachment process did not follow the due process, the Democrats insist that they were concurrently following the rules. The impeachment charges were introduced with respect to the evidence witnesses’ testimony; therefore, they believe that the process was appropriate and necessary.

In my opinion, both parties have a right to their beliefs. However, the truth is that the American people were the ones paying the price for political agendas and personal grudges. The politicians should have done better in representing their constituents and the country’s best interests.

But, as it stands, the Democrats are in the majority; thus, they hold more power, and it’s hard to avoid the impending decision they will make on whether to support or oppose expunging the charges.

In a sense, both parties have valid reasons to defend their position, but ultimately the decision to expunge or uphold the impeachment charges cannot be solely based on political allegiances or party preferences. It is, above all, a question of justice and accountability that should not be taken lightly.
